CEO Statement on Massachusetts Governor Baker H4756 Bill Signing

The Energy Storage Association (ESA) applauds Governor Baker for signing into law the bipartisan, innovative energy policies reflected in Massachusetts Bill H4756, which will advance the Commonwealth’s clean energy goals and enhance grid resilience. Through his leadership on storage, Gov. Baker has demonstrated his commitment to making the Commonwealth a leader among states like California, New York, and New Jersey in breaking down the hurdles to cost-effective energy storage deployment.

We especially commend the leadership of Gov. Baker for establishing the first-in-the-nation Clean Peak Standard (CPS) program through this law. The CPS creates a complementary market mechanism for attaining the energy storage target also established by this measure. ESA looks to support these efforts by educating stakeholders on the fundamentals of a CPS program, starting with our webinar, “The Clean Peak Standard: Coming Soon to a Docket Near You?” scheduled for 2:00 – 3:00 PM ET on August 15.

We look forward to working with Massachusetts state agencies and all stakeholders to implement these forward-thinking initiatives, which will attract industry jobs and ensure that the Commonwealth achieves the benefits associated with realizing the industry’s vision of 35 GW of energy storage by 2025.
