ESA CEO Statement on Massachusetts H. 1747 Advancement

“The Energy Storage Association (ESA) applauds the ongoing efforts by the Baker-Polito Administration and the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy to meet the clean energy goals of the Commonwealth using energy storage. Yesterday’s decision by the Massachusetts Legislature to advance an updated version of House Bill 1747, including the Clean Peak Standard (CPS), reflects a commitment to innovative and cost-effective approaches to reducing emissions from electric service.

ESA is especially pleased that H. 1747 clearly defines a role for standalone energy storage resources to meet the Commonwealth’s peak electric demand and emissions reduction goals. The Commonwealth clearly recognizes that standalone energy storage grid assets are capable of supporting the goals of the CPS without having to co-locate with renewable generators.

ESA looks forward to working with Massachusetts policymakers and other stakeholders to refine the proposed CPS program, enabling a more efficient, resilient, sustainable and affordable electric grid for all Commonwealth households and businesses.”
