ESA Submission to MISO Advisory Committee on “Hot Topic” Discussion of Energy Storage

Posted: August 19, 2016 - 15:01 / MISO / ESA Filings

Energy storage is advancing rapidly. Operating projects provide many capabilities today, and planned projects will shortly provide most other major capabilities.
Advanced energy storage has the capability of providing services to the bulk electric system, the distribution system, and to end-users—all of which can avoid or defer investment in transmission and/or generating capacity, improve reliability, and integrate more variable and asynchronous generation. Additionally, energy storage is capable of providing multiple services over a given period, either switching between applications serially or reserving different portions of capacity for different simultaneous functions.
