Oregon Department of Energy Comment Opportunity: Considerations for Developing Energy Storage Demonstration Projects In Oregon

The Oregon Department of Energy (department) is seeking comments to assist the agency in designing energy storage funding opportunities in the state. Comments are due by August 29.

In March 2014, with the support of the U.S. Department of Energy (US DOE), the department and the Oregon Public Utility Commission co-hosted an energy storage workshop. As stated in the workshop’s welcome letter, our agencies indicated an interest in demonstration projects and the “most promising applications for energy storage technologies in Oregon.”

Through a potential partnership from US DOE, Sandia National Laboratories and the Clean Energy States Alliance, the department may offer a solicitation for demonstration projects in late 2014. In preparation for future funding opportunities, the department requests comments on the appropriate scope of opportunity and criteria for maximizing public benefits in the application of these funds.

The department is not seeking comments on expanding the scope of its existing programs. The department is also limiting the inquiry to the electrical storage sector, as this would be a limitation of any prospective funding through US DOE.
