Amazon Web Services’ Peter Hans Hirschboeck Joins ESA Board of Directors
September 21, 2020 – Washington D.C. – The U.S. Energy Storage Association (ESA), the national trade association for the U.S. energy storage industry, announced today that Peter Hans Hirschboeck, Energy Projects Manager at Amazon Web Services (AWS), is the newest addition to its board of directors.
As outlined in ESA’s bylaws, Hirschboeck was appointed as a director for the remainder of the 2020-2021 term by current board chair John Hewa after a position became available earlier this year.
“I’m pleased to welcome Peter to the ESA board of directors,” said Kelly Speakes-Backman, CEO of ESA. “Peter’s expertise and knowledge of the energy business will be a highly valued perspective. Amazon is committed to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025, and we believe that their leadership gives all our members insight and understanding as to how corporations can achieve those goals when considering energy resources.”
His previous roles have centered on providing strategy and analysis for utility, distributed energy, and financial organizations. Prior to his role at AWS, Peter held a management position at consulting firm Enovation Partners. Additional experience includes teaching at The University of Chicago and providing expert advice on energy challenges in positions at Navigant and Houlihan Lokey.
“As part of the Climate Pledge, Amazon is committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and powering our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025. In order to achieve these goals, Amazon is innovating with new energy technologies that enable us to better integrate the renewable energy from our wind and solar projects as well as better manage energy use at our facilities,” said Hirschboeck. “Energy storage is a piece of this effort, and I look forward to working with the board to support ESA in its mission: to accelerate the widespread use of competitive and reliable energy storage systems in North America.”
