CEO Kelly Speakes-Backman’s Statement on FERC decision on PJM MOPR Rule

“We are concerned to learn of FERC’s decision on PJM’s Minimum Price Offer Rule (MOPR), which counteracts legitimate state policies to deploy innovative new technologies, such as energy storage, that have proven widespread grid service benefits,” said Kelly Speakes-Backman, CEO of the U.S. Energy Storage Association (ESA). “FERC, through its watershed decision and commendable implementation of Order 841, has sought to remove barriers for innovative and competitive grid energy storage. This decision appears to raise unnecessary and costly barriers to energy storage deployed for economic development, community resilience, or environmental protection reasons.”
