ESA Letter to Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Renewing Call for Storage in RFP

ESA and NECEC sent a letter commending the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP or Department) for issuing on December 15 the draft request for proposals (RFP) for clean energy and renewable resources pursuant to Public Acts 13-303, 15-107 and 17-144. The letter avowed strong support for the solicitation of bids from offshore wind, fuel cells, and anaerobic digestion, all of which are and will be important resource types for Connecticut’s future energy mix and that of the region at large. NECEC and ESA previously submitted comments on December 12 to urge the Department to use its statutory authority to additionally solicit proposals for energy storage. The letter renews our call for DEEP to further accommodate project bids from standalone energy storage systems.
