ESA on Arizona Approval of Storage Target

“ESA applauds the Arizona Corporation Commission for its vote today to advance rules that include a five percent of peak load energy storage target, as well as a suite of programs to compensate storage owners for the value their storage systems provide,” said ESA CEO Kelly Speakes-Backman. “Energy storage will provide flexibility to integrate the high levels of clean energy at the heart of the standards advanced by the Commission today, offering a cost-effective tool to ensure resource adequacy and reduce peak demand. This summer’s record heat wave and the power shutoffs across the region demonstrate the critical importance of resilience as provided by storage. ESA looks forward with working with the Commission and Arizona stakeholders to refine and implement these concepts in the rulemaking to come.”
