ESA Statement on Maine Legislation to Pursue 400 MW of Energy Storage

Yesterday, Governor Mills announced she has signed LD 528 into law, establishing a goal of 300 MW of energy storage by 2025, and 400 MW by 2030. With the bill’s passage, Maine becomes the 9th state to pass an energy storage target. ESA Interim CEO Jason Burwen released the following statement:

“It’s the Summer of Storage in New England. Maine is now the latest state in the region to enact policies that accelerate energy storage development—as well as becoming the 9th state in the U.S. to adopt an energy storage target. We applaud Governor Mills and Senator Vitelli for their leadership in accelerating storage deployment to meet the state’s clean energy and resilience priorities. We look forward to working with the Maine Energy Office and Efficiency Maine Trust to implement policies that meet the state’s target and harness the benefits of storage to make electric service more affordable, resilient, and sustainable for Maine’s residents and businesses.”
