Texas Energy Storage Summit

Registration powered by RegOnline

The Energy Storage Association (ESA) is hosting the first ever Texas Energy Storage Summit, in Austin, TX on December 5, 2014.  This unique one-day summit brings together stakeholders from across Texas and around the country to meet for an informative and collaborative event that brings an in-depth focus on the opportunities and markets available in Texas and the ERCOT system. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with storage industry leaders, utilities, grid operations staff, customers and researchers, to gain a full understanding of this market opportunity and what lies ahead for storage in the state.

This one-day summit will engage energy industry leaders from around the country to discuss the policies and best practices that are bringing storage to the forefront of conversations around the future of the grid, renewable deployment, and system planning. Hear from companies putting projects in the ground, utilities exploring Texas grid applications, and grid planners overhauling their regional markets to be able to capture the system-wide benefits storage has to offer.

Speakers at the Texas Energy Storage Summit include:

  • Brad Jones, Vice President of Commercial Operations, ERCOT
  • Michael Quinn, Vice President and CTO, Oncor Electric Delivery
  • Carl Mansfield, General Manager, Sharp Energy Systems and Services Group
  • Jeff Gates, Director of Sales & Field Operations, Alevo Energy
  • Darren Hammell, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Princeton Power Systems
  • Calvin Crowder, President, Electric Transmission Texas
  • Jack L. Farley, President and CEO, Apex CAES
  • Paul Bundschuh, President and COO of Ideal Power

Please join us in Austin for this unique opportunity where we will bring together the storage industry with other electric industry stakeholders, customers, and researchers, to discuss opportunities for collaboration and innovation in a market poised for expansion –  and pave the way forward to put energy storage to work in Texas. Visit the event website.

Competitive Markets and Grid-Scale Storage

Grid-scale energy storage systems are changing the way that we think about the generation and delivery of electricity, and competitive markets continue to evolve across the country.  Panelists will share insights into market opportunities, what is driving the evolution of those opportunities, and what it takes to deploy large-scale systems on the energy grid.

  • Moderator: Jeff Cramer, Energy Storage Association
  • Jack Farley, Apex CAES
  • Audrey Fogarty, Younicos, Inc.
  • Jeff Gates, Alevo Energy
Lunch 12:00PM – 1:00PM Salon F
Afternoon Sessions 1:00PM – 4:00PM Salon G
  • Keynote:  Brad Jones, ERCOT
Research Alliances: Industry and Universities Working Together

In universities today, research to support large scale energy storage ranges from advancing fundamental materials, to improving the electronic interfaces, to modeling of dynamics of the interaction of storage with the grid and microgrids.  At the same time, many companies are advancing the same topics to achieve better market penetration for their products.  It is very difficult for industry to capture the benefit of the academic research and to provide timely feedback that would help make the university research more relevant to the emerging storage industry.  This panel explores opportunities and mechanisms for more effective industry-university interactions in the emerging field of energy storage

  • Moderator: Bill Catlett, The University of Texas at Austin
  • Alexandra Goodon, Saft America, Inc.
  • Rayna Handelman, NAATBatt International
  • Robert Hebner, Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin
  • Michael Kearney, Ambri
  • Stephen Bayne, Texas Tech University, College of Engineering
Roundtable: The Future of Storage in Texas

While the entire day is full of insights into energy storage, every market is different, and to best understand Texas our final panel of the day will bring thought leaders from across the industry and throughout the state to discuss the future of energy storage in Texas.  With a keen focus on evolutions in the Texas markets – what is currently underway and what lies on the horizon – this panel will provide insights into how we can apply best practices and understanding from around the country to the Lone Star State.

  • Moderator: Robert J. King, Good Company Associates
  • Moderator: Suzi McClellan, Good Company Associates
  • Calvin Crowder, Electric Transmission Texas
